DOE Assistant Secretary to Participate in the Advanced Energy Initiative Economic Symposium at University of Arkansas
WASHINGTON , D.C. – Today, Friday, March 10, 2006, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Assistant Secretary Karen A. Harbert will participate in the Advanced Energy Initiative Economic Symposium hosted by BioBased Technologies and the University of Arkansas Engineering Research Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Assistant Secretary Harbert is expected to discuss the economic significance of President Bush’s newly announced American Competitiveness and Advanced Energy Initiatives.

DOE officials are traveling the country today to discuss the importance of maintaining economic leadership and a scientific edge in the world through increased science and math education and additional funding for research and development of alternative energy sources. Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman will be in Kansas City, Missouri; Deputy Secretary of Energy Clay Sell will visit Home Depot in Flower Mound, Texas, with Representative Michael Burgess; Under Secretary David Garman will be joined by Ohio Representative Deborah Pryce (R-15 th) in Columbus, Ohio; Office of Science Director, Dr. Ray Orbach will visit Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island; and Acting Assistant Secretary Doug Faulkner will stop at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
