January is National Radon Action Month...
Heed the Surgeon General’s Warning!

Did you know that exposure to radon in homes is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers–and the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking? The U.S. Surgeon General has issued a national radon health advisory urging Americans to test their homes and reduce their lung cancer risk.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that EPA estimates causes 20,000 lung cancer deaths annually. Radon testing is simple and fixing is affordable. The Federal Environmental Executive, EPA and its partner organizations encourage all Americans to test their homes and fix them when a high radon level is found. About one in 15 American homes should be fixed because they will have a high radon level of four or more picocuries per liter (4pCi/L). It's also a good idea to fix your home when the radon level is between 2-4pCi/L.

Visit http://www.epa.gov/radon and http://www.epa.gov/radon/nram/index.html to learn more about radon and National Radon Action Month.
