Abstract

ADARA, formerly the American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association, was founded in 1966 in St. Louis, Missouri. ADARA is a nonprofit membership organization. ADARA promotes development and expansion of services for deaf persons, offers a forum for professionals, students, parents, and laypersons to develop better understanding, encourages research to advance understanding of deaf people and result in improved rehabilitation and related services, encourages recruitment and training of professionals skilled in working with deaf persons, sponsors publications aimed at professionals, and supports the legislative interests of deaf people. Membership is open to all interested persons. All members are encouraged to affiliate with local or regional chapters and special interest groups.

Publications

The ADARA offers publications and commissions monographs for distribution for a fee. Serial publications: JADARA--forum for research on deaf rehabilitation; ADARA Newsletter, quarterly--reports and news of national interest for members. Deaf.
