Great Basin Plant Materials Center

Updated 08/25/2008

Fallon, Nevada

Great Basin Plant Materials Center - Fallon, NV is the 27th NRCS Plant Materials Center in the U.S. Established 2006

This newest facility is the 27th NRCS Plant Materials Center in the U.S.  The Great Basin Plant Materials Center provides service to parts of Nevada, Oregon, California, and Utah. Previously, this area was serviced by a PMC in Aberdeen, ID.

The Great Basin PMC will evaluate and develop plant materials that can be used to address a variety of conservation concerns. Many ecosystems in the Great Basin have been altered due to the introduction of invasive, exotic plant species, and the Center will study methods to control invasive plants and establish desirable vegetation communities. The Center will also study plant species for rehabilitating and restoring lands that have been impacted by disturbances such as fire and drought.

It will provide service throughout the Great Basin region, including parts of Nevada, Oregon, California, and Utah.  Many ecosystems in the Great Basin have been altered due to the introduction of invasive, exotic plant species, as well as other disturbances.  The Center will study methods to control invasive plants and establish native vegetation, and will evaluate plant materials that can be used to address conservation concerns. The PMC will replenish vegetation, expand the economy, and help provide alternative sources of energy for a Nevada that has changed in the face of drought, wildfires, and invasive plant species.  Additional information on the the Great Basin Plant Materials Center can be found on the Nevada NRCS web site.
