NIGC WEBSITE UNDERGOING CHANGES
Washington DC, August 28, 2006 — The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) is undertaking changes to its website to address reliability and security issues. In addition, the NIGC has recently been the victim of website hackers. This incident has in no way compromised the content of NIGC’s website or our networks and the Commission is moving swiftly to resolve this issue.
The NIGC website was cosmetically defaced, which means the hackers inserted their materials in front of NIGC’s homepage by breaching NIGC’s current hosting company’s security measures. With anticipation of continued increase in usage of the website, the Commission is in the process of relocating the website to another hosting company that possesses additional security against such attacks. This transition should be complete next week.
The NIGC is an independent regulatory agency established within the Department of the Interior pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.
