Many other vaccines contain aluminum, too, such as tetanus toxoid.

Aluminum is called an "adjuvant," a substance that increases the immune response to vaccination.

Aluminum works in two ways: attracting white blood cells and acting as a storage depot.
    Attracting white blood cells increases antibody levels.
    Aluminum helps form a depot at the injection site, which slows release
    of PA into the body. This increases antibody levels too.
