Description

The Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) program will provide secure, collaborative information-sharing environment and unprecedented access to decision-quality information. NCES will enable decision-making superiority that results in increased mission effectiveness and enhanced process execution. It is based upon an emerging concept in the DoD called "net-centricity," which enables systems to provide the right information to the right person at the right time.

NCES will support new capabilities in all DoD domains, bringing together the promise of Internet technology and the joint power of DoD. The DoD Global Information Grid (GIG) will become like a private world-wide web. Business, intelligence and war fighting information and supporting infrastructures will be sharable where and whenever necessary, NCES represents a different approach for DoD — market-based, enterprise-wide, and joint-by-design.

Customers

NCES customer base includes the warfighter, intelligence, and business domains - virtually anyone within DoD who needs to share and retrieve information.

NCES Capabilities

NCES capabilities are packaged into four product lines:

Service-Oriented Architecture Foundation (SOAF) provides DoD's software foundation for interoperable computing. Core services included in the SOAF are security/information assurance, service discovery, enterprise service management, machine-to-machine messaging, people and device discovery, mediation and metadata registry services.

Collaboration enables synchronous communication and file sharing among users. NCES Collaboration services include: session management, presence and awareness, audio collaboration, video collaboration, text collaboration, whiteboarding & annotation, application sharing, application broadcasting and virtual spaces.

Content Discovery and Delivery provides common specifications to expose, search, retrieve and deliver information across the enterprise.

Portal provides personalized, user-defined, web-based presentation and offers secure access to enterprise services.
