The Global Information Grid (GIG) Combat Support (GS) operates as a customer-centric, combat support organization with the responsibility to plan, evolve, deliver, sustain, and ensure the enduring quality of Department of Defense (DoD) voice, video, data networks, computing services, and related applications. GS supports the U.S. president, combatant commanders, DoD senior leaders, military services, and DoD agencies.

Structure

Operational elements of GS are:

Center for Network Services consolidates all Defense Information System Network (DISN) activities under a single senior manager. Network Services translates customers' long-haul network requirements into effective voice, video, and data network solutions; leverages proven and emerging technologies to ensure joint interoperability, assured security, and best value; evaluates technical operations; and resolves technical support issues for DoD's long-haul networks.

Center for Applications Sustainment procures, deploys, evolves, and sustains secure, interoperable applications capabilities through world-class, net-centric responsive automated information systems that exceed the expectations of the warfighters and the federal government.

Center for Computing Services provides DoD with computer processing for combat support as well as command-and-control functions, including transportation, logistics, maintenance, munitions, acquisition, finance, medical services, and military personnel readiness. CSD provides mainframe-server and other information-processing services across a broad spectrum of operating systems. CSD is DoD's number-one provider of personnel, accounting, payroll, logistics, and medical records processing.
