Fryzel Tours Illinois Credit Unions

September 5, 2008, Alexandria, Va. – National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Michael E. Fryzel this week continued his outreach to the credit union industry by touring Selfreliance Ukrainian American Federal Credit Union and North Side Community Federal Credit Union in Chicago.

Chairman Fryzel Wednesday met with Selfreliance Ukrainian American FCU CEO Bohdan Watral and received a tour of the credit union’s operations and facilities, and Thursday did the same with North Side Community Federal Credit Union and Manager Ed Jacob. “These credit unions exemplify the central role that credit unions can and should play in the financial lives of communities,” commented Fryzel.  “Both institutions exemplify the ‘people helping people’ philosophy while giving their members access to affordable, up-to-date financial services.  These credit unions set a very high standard, and I look forward to experiencing first-hand more examples of this kind of approach across the Nation.”

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of nearly 87 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions.
