Alabama

• 3 AmeriCorps members at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Alabama in Prattville are putting together a canned goods drive at their club and are assisting a local Church that has turned into a distribution center for donated goods.
   
• In cooperation with a local school, 2 Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Huntsville AmeriCorps members are collecting donated items and money for Hurricane Katrina evacuees; so far, the collaborative effort has raised over $500 in food and $2,000 in cash.

Delaware

• 15 to 20 VISTA and AmeriCorps members, fully trained by the Red Cross, have been deployed to Mobile, Ala., to begin two weeks of service with the Red Cross, where they will be serving alongside a number of Delaware State Parks AmeriCorps members.
   
• 10 VISTA members from the University of Delaware are acting as case workers at the Katrina Resource Center in Washington, D.C.

Georgia

• 2 AmeriCorps VISTA members with Mach Academy in Augusta contacted more than 200 churches, businesses, and individuals throughout the community to solicit support for hurricane Katrina evacuees relocated to Augusta; more than 70 large garbagebags of clothes and 700 personal care items were delivered to the May Park and Salvation Army relocation service centers for distribution.

Kentucky

• 6 Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership RSVP volunteers with the American Red Cross have manned the phone lines at the Southwest Resource Center every day to refer inquiries from evacuees. An additional 3 RSVP volunteers are providing information at the main Red Cross office, and 11 RSVP volunteers are serving at the collection center sponsored by Salvation Army and Metro United Way.

Maryland

• 24 Allegany County RSVP volunteers have been referred to the local American Red Cross, Salvation Army, or Western Maryland Food Bank to assist local evacuees.
   
• 10 VISTA members from the Statewide Maryland Volunteer Center project are acting as case workers at the Katrina Resource Center in Washington, D.C.

New Jersey

• 9 AmeriCorps members with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County have raised more than $3,500 for relief efforts.

North Carolina

• Wayne RSVP in Goldsboro is connecting volunteers with agencies serving the disaster areas. 2 experienced RSVP volunteers are currently deployed to Hurricane Katrina sites..

Oklahoma

• TheRegional Food Bankof Oklahoma VISTA program sent 4 truckloads of food and supplies to Baton Rouge, La., to help the New Orleans food bank.
   
• 8 AmeriCorps members with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country are collecting and sorting games, toys, books, and undergarments for distribution in Bryan, Texas.

Rhode Island

• 3 East Bay RSVP volunteers are loading and unloading trucks at the Salvation Army and delivering items to families at the Middletown Anchorage housing site, where the evacuees are staying. Other volunteers are also sorting donations at the Salvation Army. 8 volunteers are meeting on Fridays to make quilts for the evacuees.

Texas

• 5 AmeriCorps members at the Oak Cliff Club of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas are helping to organize a food, clothing and toiletries drive. The donations are being sent to the American Red Cross for distribution. Another 10 AmeriCorps members at the Grand Prairie Club are collecting and distributing food and clothing.
   
• 12 AmeriCorps members with the Boys & Girls Club of Edinburg/Rio Grande Valley are coordinating a cell phone drive to raise funds for hurricane victims. For each cell phone collected, Progressive Telecom will pay $3, all of which will go to Katrina relief efforts.

Virginia

• The RSVP volunteers at the Suffolk Red Cross have been assisting the Red Cross staffwith the training of volunteers going to the disaster area.
   
• RSVP volunteers in Luray have helped collect clothing, water, baby diapers, and other necessary items and have filled 300 boxes, which were sent on to Harrisonburg for distribution to hurricane victims.
