Try Sermo, an Online Conversation Created by Physicians for Physicians

Sermo enables physicians practicing in the U.S. to exchange knowledge by posting observations and questions online for colleagues to read and discuss. Members also may rate the relevance of contributions through a voting feature.

In recent postings, members commented on:

  • Abnormal troponin in diagnosis/management of chest pain
  • Adult with spondylolysis at two levels
  • A Case of Polycranial Neuritis
  • Dyskinesias: severe, need help
  • The end to virtual colonoscopy?
  • Foreign Body in esophagus
  • Importance of Free and Reverse T3 in Thyroid Evaluation
  • Max Local Anesthetic Dosing and Post op Pain Control
  • Patient with platelet count 1,395,000 for Cholecystectomy.

Membership in Sermo is free but requires identity and credential verification using databases of licensed physicians.

Sermo is built on an information arbitrage model. Its clients—financial and healthcare institutions and government agencies—mine the physician postings to identify emerging disease conditions, assess current medical opinion, and conduct epidemiologic investigations.

Current strategic partners include the American Medical Association, Nature Publishing Group, the University of Michigan, and ReachMD.
