Postdoctoral Fellowship in Genetics and Genomics: Skin and Dermatology

Department of Health and Human Services
National Institutes of Health
National Human Genome Research Institute
Genetics and Molecular Biology Branch, Epithelial Biology Section

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) a the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering a fully funded postdoctoral position to focus on the genetics and genomics of common skin disorders in both human studies and animal models. Combining classical genetics and modern genomic tools, we investigate gene-environment interactions at the skin surface and how defects in the skin barrier and changes in the bacterial diversity contribute to disease state. (See: Human Microbiome Project [nihroadmap.nih.gov].) Research in this group combines clinical dermatology, microbiology and genomics with large scale sequencing. See papers by JA Segre: Proceedings fo the National Academy of Sciences, December 2007; the Journal of Cell Biology, November 2007; and the Journal of Clinical Investigation, May 2007.

NHGRI has excellent training opportunities to interact with other laboratories and core facilities, including NIH sequencing center, bioinformatics, DNA microarray analysis, genomic analysis, cell sorting, and mouse transgenesis and knock-outs.

Applications are ongoing for this position with a rolling deadline. Motivated candidates who wish to join a group of enthusiastic scientists are requested to send by mail or by e-mail a CV, a brief statement of research interests and the names of three references to the address below. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or an M.D. degree awarded within the past five years.

To apply online go to: NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship Program: Genetics & Genomics: Skin and Dermatology [training.nih.gov].
