Online Education Kit: Understanding the Human Genome Project

Education Kit CDThis multimedia educational kit created by NHGRI covers the history of the Human Genome Project and the basics of molecular biology.
A Guide to your GenomePDF file

Guide to your Genome Comprehensive and easy to understand information about your genome.
Talking Glossary of Genetic Terms

DNA helix A resource created to help people without scientific backgrounds understand the terms and concepts used in genetic research. Students, teachers and parents will find the glossary an easy-to-use, always available learning source on genetics.
Community of Genetic Educators [coge.nih.gov]

COGE logo A place for genetic educators to meet, collaborate, share and learn. Resources here will benefit K-12, collegiate, formal and informal biology and genetics.
Cloning

an animalA science fact sheet produced by NHGRI that explains the different types of cloning - from cloning genes to cloning whole animals.
Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA)

DNA double helixA science fact sheet produced by NHGRI that covers the definition, function and discovery of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA).
Genetics Education Modules for Teachers
A series of teaching modules developed by NHGRI. The modules include specific teaching plans to present the history, facts and genetic terminology behind the Human Genome Project, and the ethical, legal and social questions surrounding the discoveries and advancements of this research.
Human Genetic Variation [science-education.nih.gov]
An online curriculum supplement developed by NHGRI and the National Institutes of Health's Office of Science Education that covers the basics of human genetic variation.
Genetics Mentorship Program [genednet.org]
An American Society of Human Genetics, nationwide program created to provide genetics experts for the classroom.
Joint Genome Institute from the Department of Energy [jgi.doe.gov]
The Department of Energy (DOE) includes a dramatic, full-color educational poster entitled "Genomics: The Human Genome and Beyond," available free to teachers and genomics professionals. The placemat-sized poster features basic information on DNA, protein synthesis, the genome sequencing process, comparative genomics, human differences and mutations, and genomics applications.
