Recruitment for Chemistry Scientists and Associates

NIH Chemical Genomics Center

Department of Health and Human Services
National Institutes of Health
National Human Genome Research Institute

The NIH Chemical Genomics Center (NCGC, www.ncgc.nih.gov) is an ultrahigh-throughput screening and chemistry center which discovers chemical probes of gene and cell functions, and develops new paradigms that enable chemical genomics and downstream drug development. The NCGC also focuses on the development of chemical starting points for new drugs for rare genetic and orphan diseases, in order to make the medical promise of the genome a reality. Located 10 minutes north of the NIH Campus in Rockville, MD, the Center has a staff of over 30 biologists, chemists, engineers, and informatics scientists, who work with investigators throughout NIH and the world to translate the genome into biological function and therapeutics.

We are seeking highly qualified research associates to join the Biomolecular Screening Division to implement all aspects of the assay development and screening. The NCGC is a unique and exciting environment employing technologies on the cutting edge of small molecule screening and chemical genomics.

Candidates will perform the following duties:
  • Perform assay optimization, automated HTS, hit profiling assays and focused screens.
  • Operate automated systems, prepare assay reagents, and execute biochemical and cell-based assays.
  • Use molecular, biochemical, and cell biology techniques to implement and optimize assays.
  • Interact with chemists and informatics scientists to aid molecular probe development.
  • Contribute to the writing and publishing of scientific manuscripts.

Requirements:
  • B.S. in Biology or Chemistry
  • Pharmaceutical/biotech experience in robotics, HTS, or small molecule libraries preferred.
  • Highly motivated and able to thrive in an interactive, fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous lab technique and recording, excellent computer skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Interested applicants should send curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation to: NCGC@mail.nih.gov.

Applications will be reviewed until positions are filled.
