What type of research is being conducted at NHGRI/DIR?
There are seven research branches in the Division of Intramural Research. Investigators study areas such as cancer genetics, genome technology, medical genetics and social and behavioral research.
How many investigators comprise NHGRI/DIR?

Can applications be submitted electronically or should applicants submit hard copies?
Applications should be sent electronically.
Can applicants submit the application in various stages or should applicants wait until they have completed all of the components of the application and submit one package?
Applications can be sent in stages. For example, an applicant could submit the background information section and his/her CV before submitting his/her proposal.
Should letters of reference be sent electronically or by mail?
Letters should be e-mailed directly by the reference to Michelle Hamlet, or, if they are sent by mail, they should be in signed/sealed envelopes.
Will applicants be required to send all publications?
Applicants should submit three papers that represent their research. Papers can be sent electronically or by mail.
What is the page limit for the narrative letter?
Letters should be two to three pages in length.
What is the deadline to receive applications?
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Who is responsible for identifying an NHGRI principle investigator with whom to collaborate?
The applicant is responsible for identifying the NHGRI investigator in whose lab the applicant wishes to work. Please visit NHGRI Research Investigators. Applicants should confirm with the NHGRI investigator that a collaboration is possible preferably before the application packet is submitted.
