Established 1989
Louisiana is losing about 25 square miles of coastal wetlands to erosion every
year. The Golden Meadow Plant Materials Center in Galliano, Louisiana develops plants and procedures
to reverse this loss of coastal wetlands in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi.
The Center has released several improved conservation plants including 'Pelican’
black mangrove, ‘Vermillion’ smooth cordgrass and Caminada Germplasm seaoats,
and has published planting guides on establishing these coastal plants.
