Sandia's Nonproliferation program reduces U.S. vulnerability to weapons of mass destruction (WMD). These include nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons, as well as nonconventional WMDs such as the highjacked civilian airlines used to commit acts of war against our nation.
Our solutions enhance national security and stable international relations by:
- Supporting treaty verification with other countries
- Creating new technologies for aircraft and satellites to detect proliferation activities
- Working with the Former Soviet Union to safely manage nuclear materials from dismantled weapons systems
- Enhancing nuclear, chemical, and biological weapon proliferation detection capabilities
- Developing physical security technologies, including entry-control devices and electronic monitoring
