The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board has named Arthur A. Arfa as
its Director of Hearings and Appeals.
An independent Federal agency headquartered in Chicago, the RRB
administers the
$8.7 billion-a-year benefit programs provided under the Federal Railroad
Retirement and Unemployment Insurance Acts covering the nation's railroad
workforce and their families.
As Director, Mr. Arfa will be responsible for the Bureau of
Hearings and Appeals' reviews of unfavorable claims determinations made by the
agency. Prior to being named Director, Mr. Arfa had been serving as an attorney
in the RRB's Office of General Counsel. He has also served as Assistant Director
of Hearings and Appeals and Assistant to the Associate Executive Director of
Legal and Administrative Services. An RRB employee since 1973, Mr. Arfa is a
recipient of the agency's prestigious Award for Excellence, which recognizes
employees for significant and outstanding service to the railroad public.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago (B.A. 1972)
and Loyola University School of Law (J.D. 1976), Mr. Arfa and his wife, Judy,
reside in Wilmette, Illinois.
