An independent Federal agency headquartered in Chicago, the RRB administers
the $8.5 billion-a-year benefit programs provided under the Federal Railroad
Retirement and Unemployment Insurance Acts covering the nation's railroad
workforce and their families.
As CIO, Mr. Zoll will head the RRB's Bureau of Information Services and will
be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the agency's information
resources management program. In addition, he will continue to serve as the
RRB's Chief Enterprise Architect, with responsibilities for establishing
standards, policies and frameworks to guide the agency's use of information
technology as well as developing infrastructure programs and Internet/Intranet
strategies.
Mr. Zoll will also serve as a member of the RRB's Executive Committee, which
is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency and for making
recommendations to the three-member Board on agency-related policy issues.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Zoll had been serving as Acting CIO. He
previously served as Acting Director of Administration, and as Chief of Systems
and Technology Development in the RRB's Office of Programs - Policy and Systems.
In that capacity he was responsible for the development of new mainframe and
personal computer programs, Internet/Intranet development, and the agency's
document imaging and workflow system. His efforts in developing and implementing
innovative automation initiatives helped earn the RRB three of its five Hammer
Awards from the National Partnership for Reinventing Government.
A native of Chicago, Mr. Zoll is a graduate of Loyola University (B.S. 1969,
M.B.A 1975).
