HHS Secretary Michael O. Leavitt's Visit to Africa

August 11, 2008 – HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt meets with His Holiness Abune Paulos, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church at the Patriarch's Residence in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Patriarch told Secretary Leavitt that Ethiopians are very grateful to the United States for their support in the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria and that the Church stood ready to help in the distribution of medicine and health services. The Patriarch's influence is very powerful in Ethiopia.
