CAMEO OverviewPeople Using CAMEOCAMEO Training

CAMEO Training

Each year, thousands of first responders and emergency planners are trained to use CAMEO in classes led by more than 100 CAMEO certified instructors.

CAMEO training is offered by many different groups, including:

  • Harvard School of Public Health, which offers advanced and basic CAMEO training a few times a year.
  • Department of Homeland Security, which offers Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) training for first responders through the Louisiana State University (LSU).
  • Private companies.

To find out about upcoming CAMEO classes, go to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) CAMEO site by selecting the link titled EPA CAMEO Training Calendar at right.

You may also want to contact your region's EPA CAMEO representative to learn about CAMEO in your area. Select the EPA CAMEO Contacts link at right to identify your region.

CAMEO Instructor Certification

With so many CAMEO users nationwide, it is beyond the capabilities of NOAA and EPA to provide training for everyone. However, we have developed a certification program for trainers to ensure that qualified trainers are available.

Anyone interested in becoming a certified trainer may take the certification exam. If you are interested in learning more about this process, select the link titled EPA Instructors' Corner at right.

CAMEO in Schools

Several schools are using the CAMEO programs to teach students about emergency response and planning. For example,

  • Salem State College offers graduate and undergraduate geography courses that use MARPLOT and CAMEO. In the graduate course, students develop integrated MARPLOT-CAMEO systems for communities.
  • University of Connecticut offers an undergraduate course that uses CAMEO and ALOHA to look at mathematical modeling in the environment.
  • Massachusetts Maritime Academy and University of Pittsburg also offer classes that use CAMEO programs.
