Volcanoes along Chilean-Argentinean Border

Steep sided volcanic cones along the Chilean-Argentinean border add texture to this “study in blues.” Of the approximately 1,800 volcanoes scattered across this region, 28 are active.

This scene was acquired on February 1, 2002, by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite.
