Question - Are (woodchucks) groundhogs a protected species? I live in
Illinois.
---------------------------------------
All mammals are protected by law adminstered by the Illinois Department of
Natural Resources. It is illegal to kill or harm any wild mammal in Illinois
unless under regulations by IDNR. Mammals may be killed during designated
hunting and trapping seasons, and the IDNR may issue permits to remove
nuisance animals if deemed appropriate. Check with the IDNR for more
information.
