Question -   Do most types of ground squirrels hibernate in
southeastern Wisconsin?

Two species of ground squirrels live in southeastern Wisconsin and northern
Illinois, and both are true hibernators. They are Franklin's ground
squirrel, which has become quite uncommon because of destruction of prairie
habitat, and thirteen lined ground squirrel, which is common.
Ground squirrels should not be confused with gophers, chipmunks or moles,
which might also have burrows in the ground.
