Regional Symposium Award
Call For Applications

 

The purpose of this award is to allow Network members to work with the NN/LM SCR office to coordinate and implement a forum to support and enhance 2006-2011 RML Contract initiatives, including emerging health information technologies, hospital library advocacy, health information literacy, health information outreach to community based organizations, public health workforce, or allied health professionals, or assessment and evaluation. The Symposium format should allow time to highlight and promote the NLM and the NN/LM SCR programs and services, as well as a discussion and feedback forum by attendees. Webcasting or recording the symposium is highly recommended for viewing by Network members who are unable to attend the Symposium.

Eligibility

Network members in the NN/LM SCR (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas) are eligible to apply. Network membership is free and open to anyone interested in providing health information. To apply for membership: http://nnlm.gov/scr/services/member.html.

Funding

One (1) award up to $8,600 will be made between June 1,  2008 - April 30, 2009.

Budget Guidelines

Personnel, food, and Indirect Costs are not allowable.

Period of Performance

The Symposium must be held within 12 months from the date of the award. 

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation will be based on the demonstrated capabilities of the prospective bidders in relation to the needs of the project as set forth in the Call for Applications. The merits of each application will be carefully evaluated, based on responsiveness to the Call for Applications and the thoroughness and feasibility of the technical approach proposed. Applications will be scored against these criteria, so please be certain that all criteria have been addressed. 

Criterion 1
Target Population and Rationale for Selection:  30 Points 

  • Clear understanding of the target population
  • Identification of target population needs in relation to the Symposium topic
  • How the target population will benefit from the Symposium

Criterion 2
Symposium Plan:  30 Points 

  • Symposium plan is feasible and complete.

Criterion 3
Experience and Qualifications of Staff:  30 Points

  • Documentation of experience and qualifications of key personnel is provided.
  • Roles of key personnel, including resumes
  • Letters of support, where applicable

Criterion 4
Budget:  10 Points

  • The budget is appropriate for the Symposium plan. 

Total possible points:  100

Deliverables

A final report and an article to be submitted to Blogadillo (http://nnlm.gov/scr/blog/) will be required within 30 days of the completed Symposium. The Awardee will take photographs for inclusion in the report and article.

In addition to the aforementioned reporting requirements, the Awardee shall provide copies of all communications, materials produced, press releases, advertisements, and articles for newsletters related to the project. The Awardee gives permission for use of such materials by the NLM and NN/LM.

Publication and Publicity

The Awardee shall acknowledge the support of the National Institutes of Health whenever publicizing the work under this contract in any media by including an acknowledgment substantially as follows:

This project has been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. N01-LM-6-3505, with the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy Requirement

In accordance with the NIH Public Access Policy (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-08-033.html) investigators must submit or have submitted for them their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts that arise from NIH funds and are accepted for publication as of April 7, 2008 to PubMed Central (http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/), to be made publicly available no later than 12 months after publication. As of May 27, 2008, investigators must include the PubMed Central reference number when citing an article in NIH applications, proposals, and progress reports that fall under the policy, and was authored or co-authored by the investigator or arose from the investigator’s NIH award. If a website is developed under this award, the website must adhere to Section 508 compliance.
