Origin of the LANL LAPADuring March 2006, postdocs from a wide cross-section of the laboratory divisions were invited to meet with Director Anastasio to discuss issues pertaining to postdocs during the time of the contractual transition from UC to LANS; a group of 15 postdocs attended this meeting. From this group, a smaller sub-group began having discussions with
Mary Anne With, the Postdoc Program Office Leader, concerning the start
of a Los Alamos Postdoc Association (LAPA). With the intention
of maintaining the community of involved, interested postdocs that had
developed during the meeting with Anastasio, so that the enthusiasm
and momentum could be continued and shared with the entire population
of postdocs at LANL, the meetings have continued and grown. If you are interested in becoming involved with the process, contact the LAPA Secretary.
Postdocs: The Future of SciencePostdocs are not only the future of science, but specifically, the future of LANL. In order to ensure that this future is a bright one, the Postdoctoral Association works to make the life of the LANL postdoc more fulfilling both socially and more importantly, professionally.
Rules of Order and Meeting ConductThe following documents describe in either steps or easy to read tables how to go about properly conducting business at a LAPA General Assembly (GA) Meeting. The first two documents will be available for reference at the GA meetings.
Newsletter and Conversion StatsLAPA has initiated a monthly Newsletter which contains all of the previous and upcoming monthly events and happenings. Postdoc Night at Lala's CocinaThe Postdoc Night will now be at Lala's Cocina on Trinity across from Sonic (every third Wednesday of the month starting at 5:30 PM). The restaraunt will be open only to LANL Postdocs. In addition we will have access to the 6 pool tables and VFW bar that is connected to the restaraunt!!! The restaraunt is family friendly. Go to the side door (Bar Entrance) to gain access to the restaurant. So come join us at Lala's!!!!
LANL Postdocs: Members of NPAAs a Postdoc at the Lab, you have a free membership to the National Postdoc Association. LANL has what is called a "sustaining membership". Because of that, any postdoc at LANL can sign up for a free "affiliate membership" using their LANL email address. To access your membership, go to the NPA website and click on "Membership" and then "Join the NPA" at the top of the main page. Under "Types of Membership" click on "Affiliate Member" and fill out the form. An email will soon be sent to your inbox with a link to click where you proceed to select a login and password. Each postdoc then has their own login, but does not have to pay. With the affiliate membership, you have access to all the NPA publications, etc. The one difference between an affiliate membership, as compared to an individual membership (that you have to pay for), is that as an affiliate member you cannot vote in the NPA elections.
Postdoc Event CalendarNotice the link for "Event Calendar" on the leftAny postdoc can go to this calendar to see what postdoc events are happening, and also postdocs can add events! It is simple. Click on the Event Calendar link and then at the bottom of the Event Calendar page that opens, simply click on the "Add New Entry" toward the bottom of the page. The event will be sent to an administrator for approval and that is all there is to it!

September 2007 LANL Postdoc Career FairOn September 5, 2007, Los Alamos Postdoc Association and Los Alamos National Laboratory hosted a career fair for its postdoctoral researchers.
