HHS Participates in the Humanitarian Mission of the USS Kearsarge

August 1, 2008 – Two senior leaders from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Assistant Secretary for Health ADM Joxel García and Assistant Secretary for Aging Josefina Carbonell, participated today in the launch of the humanitarian mission of the USS Kearsarge, which will be visiting Latin America and the Caribbean over the next three months.  HHS has 14 commissioned officers of the U.S. Public Health Service from various disciplines on board the Kearsarge, and other teams of HHS medical, dental, nursing, environmental-health and veterinary personnel will rotate to join the mission over the coming months.
