April 15, 2008 – U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael O. Leavitt visited Singapore as part of his three-country Southeast Asia tour.  In Singapore, Secretary Leavitt had a productive meeting with the Minister of Health, the Honorable Khaw Boon Wan, to discuss a wide range of issues from product safety to value-driven health-care.

Secretary Leavitt also toured the Regional Emerging Diseases Intervention (REDI) Center, a joint project between the U.S. Government and the Government of Singapore.  The Center tracks emerging diseases in the region and provides training responding to outbreaks of infectious diseases.  After his meeting at the REDI Center, the Secretary toured Singapore’s new Bio-technology park, Biopolis, and hosted a Product Safety luncheon on product safety issues with local Government and business leaders.
