HHS Deputy Secretary Tevi Troy Visits the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the State of Israel

April 02, 2008 – U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Deputy Secretary Tevi Troy, Ph.D., visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the State of Israel from March 31 through April 2, 2008. During his two-day stay in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, he followed-up on recent visits by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, and marked the friendship between the United States and Jordan. He met with Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, senior Jordanian health officials, and private-sector leaders to discuss collaborative efforts between the United States and Jordan in physical activity; biotechnology, innovation and the prevention and treatment of cancer; and product safety, particularly the safety and quality of food and drugs.

 

On April 1, 2008, Dr. Troy also participated in athletic activities of the King Abdullah II Award for Physical Fitness with the students at the Wadi Mousa Boys School in Petra.

 

The Deputy Secretary spent April 2, 2008, in Israel, where he met with senior Israeli health officials, renewed a Memorandum of Understanding on collaborative health efforts between the United States and Israel, and spoke about U.S. health policies to students of the Hadassah School of Public Health and Community Medicine at Braun Hebrew University. He also discussed the current health situation in the West Bank and Gaza, as well as possible areas of technical assistance, in a meeting with senior Palestinian health officials.
