External Outreach and Minority Affairs:
About EOMA

Mission
The twofold mission of the External Outreach and Minority Affairs (EOMA) unit is to:
  1. Broaden awareness within the OCC and the U.S. banking industry about current minority banking issues;
  2. Broaden awareness within minority communities throughout the U.S. about the role the OCC plays in ensuring fair access to financial services and fair treatment of bank customers.
Objectives
The Division aims to fulfill its mission by:
  • Developing and institutionalizing an EOMA Program of mutual benefit and value to the OCC and minority community;
  • Keeping the OCC abreast of unique challenges that minority banks face in addressing the needs of their primary customers;
  • Keeping minority communities informed of matters relevant to ensuring their fair and equal access to quality financial services;
  • Helping position the OCC to operate in a proactive manner when addressing current and emerging issues pertaining to minority bank industry and communities; and
  • Serving as a key vehicle for preparing and disseminating information aimed at helping MOIs and community organizations understand the national banking system and OCC policies and procedures.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency was created by Congress to charter national banks, to oversee a nationwide system of banking institutions, and to assure that national banks are safe and sound, competitive and profitable, and capable of serving in the best possible manner the banking needs of their customers.
