The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs will host the Fifth Pan-American Committee of Military Medicine Congress - "Partnering to Overcome the Health Challenges of the Americas," on November 9-15, 2008 at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio, Texas.

Participation is open to the public and all Department of Defense (DoD) medical personnel. Registration is no-cost, but required; space is limited. Priority will be given to those participating in the scientific program.

Official topics of the Congress are Infectious Disease, Epidemiological Surveillance, Response to Natural Disasters, and Military Medical Support to Civilian Authorities. The event will feature a stimulating and innovative scientific program, visits to San Antonio-based military health facilities, and a cultural program designed to strengthen friendship ties.

Over 150 military healthcare professionals from 25 Western Hemisphere countries will meet to discuss the latest news and scientific advances in the field of Military Medicine. Participation of US personnel proficient in Spanish, Portuguese and Creole is solicited to facilitate attendee interaction. Simultaneous translation will be provided throughout the program to enable participation of all US personnel.
