Undergraduate Flying Training selection board seeks applicants
RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center here on Jan. 13, 2009. The board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, combat systems officer, and air battle manager training.

Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. -- The sun is our primary source of vitamin D. Vitamin D helps people absorb calcium for stronger and healthier bones. It only requires about 60 minutes of sun exposure to obtain a healthy dose of Vitamin D. Prolonged exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays can cause skin damage, eye damage, immune system suppression, and skin cancer.

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Security Forces Ground Combat Training Squadron recently kicked off the Joint Base Balad training, a newly designed 45-day course to provide advance ground combat weapons and tactics instruction for outside-the-wire missions and area security operations for active duty, guard, and Reserve security forces Airmen and chaplains. The training is for security forces and chaplains who embed and eventually take over Army operations at Joint Base Balad, Iraq.

Air Force family knows the meaning of service
SOUTHWEST ASIA -- When he was younger, Chaplain (Capt.) John Shipman, senior protestant chaplain at the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, learned the lessons of service and hard work with his five older brothers on a farm in Wisconsin. There, while milking cows, plowing and baling hay, they were taught the meaning of hard work, the enormity of handling responsibility and the value of service.

News media can apply for media credentials through the Nellis Public Affairs Office. The preliminary media application must include the full legal name and news media affiliation. Majority of news media will enter the base with the public via the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Nov. 8-9. There will not be a media day on Friday this year. Retiree Appreciation Day
Nellis Air Force Base Retiree Appreciation Day is Sept. 27, 2008 and a ceremony will be held in Thunderbird Hangar between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is the bases opportunity to recognize and honor retirees from all military branches for their service. Retirees of all services and their guests are welcome. Aircraft and ground static displays, an information fair with on and off base organizations, health screenings, tours of the Threat Training Facility, entertainment, door prizes and free food will be available.

Road Closures for POW/MIA Ceremony
Due to the upcoming POW/MIA Ceremony, scheduled to be held Sept. 19, 2008, Kinley Drive, the road adjacent to Freedom Park and Freedom Circle, will be closed between 9:45 and 11:45 a.m. The road will be closed to all except for personnel requiring handicapped parking and distinguished visitors. Traffic from this road will be redirected to Tyndall Avenue. For questions, contact the law enforcement desk at 702-652-2311.
