Question - Why does acid burn through things?
-------------------------------------
Liz,

Generally, acids "burn" through things because acids either react
quickly with many substances, or dissolves such substances rapidly.
Along with the reaction or dissolution is the production of heat,
and often with some gaseous product. We perceive all of this as a
kind of burning.
