Question - Is nitrogen an inert gas. If yes, then how?
-----------------------------------------------------
If no, then why an inert gas generator is used to seperate N2 from natural gas?
The term "inert gas" is used in two contexts in chemistry:

1. Elements specifically belonging to Group VIII of the periodic table --
He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, and Rn.
2. Substances that do not readily undergo chemical reactions, such as N2.

It is in this second context that nitrogen is described as an "inert gas".
