Aerosols have a wide array of effects on climate, weather and air quality. Understanding how aerosols perturb the energy budget and cloud/precipitation processes will help predict future climates, mitigate poor air quality, and generally improve the health and safety of earth and its inhabitants. Yet aerosols are fleeting, and their interactions complex, so that modeling them is extremely challenging. We are attempting to reduce the uncertainty of the description of the "Global Aerosol System" and its effect on climate by combining the latest global aerosol measurements with modeling, assimilation and analysis techniques.
