The NASA Chief Health and Medical Officer (CHMO) is Dr. Richard Williams. The Office of the Chief Health
and Medical Officer has personnel at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC and at a
tenant office at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida.
NASA Occupational Health consists of
approximately 400 Occupational Health professionals distributed across 14 NASA Centers and
Facilities. These professionals provide comprehensive support to a diverse, highly
technological workforce of over 75,000 civil servant and contractor employees involved in human
exploration and development of space aeronautics research, and earth and space science
activities.

Where does NASA Occupational Health fit into NASA's Vision and Mission?
Implementing Strategy-4 of the NASA 2003 Strategic Plan states that NASA will ensure
that all NASA work environments, on Earth, and in Space, are safe, healthy, environmentally
sound and secure. It is the responsibility of the NASA Chief Health and Medical Officer to
evaluate, monitor, and improve the occupational health of the NASA workforce. The objective is
to eliminate the incidence of occupational health injuries and illness for the NASA workforce.
