Description

This data set contains digital image model strip mosaics produced from images taken by the Clementine High Resolution Camera. All mosaics are geometrically controlled, calibrated, and compiled from non-uniformity corrected, 750 nanometer ('D') filter high resolution observations. The strips are approximately 1.75 deg latitude extent (2653 lines) and widths correponding to the tile's valid data extent, usually no more than about 300 pixels. The mosaics cover sub-polar regions between 80 deg S and 80 deg N with the sinusoidal equal area mapping at 20 m/pixel, and the polar regions above 80 deg with a stereographic mapping at 30 m/pixel resolution at the poles. Each CD also contains ancillary data files. These files include browse images stored in a JPEG format, HTML documents that support a web browser interface to the CDs, index files that tabulate the contents of the CD, and documentation files.

The set consists of 22 volumes divided between subpolar strips covering the region between latitude 80 S and 80 N (Volumes CL_6001 to CL_6018) and the polar mosaics (Volumes CL_6019 to CL_6022). The 18 subpolar volumes hold individual strip mosaics. Taken together, the high resolution strips cover only a small portion of the surface area in any given sub-polar region. Coverage on the volumes is as follows: CL_6001 (0 - 80 N, 0 - 30 E); CL_6002 (80 S - 0, 0 - 30 E); CL_6003 (0 - 80 N, 30 - 60 E); CL_6004 (80 S - 0, 30 - 60 E); CL_6005 (80 S - 80 N, 60 - 90 E); CL_6006 (80 S - 80 N, 90 - 120 E); CL_6007 (80 S - 80 N, 120 - 150 E); CL_6008 (80 S - 80 N, 150 - 180 E); CL_6009 (80 S - 80 N, 180 - 210 E); CL_6010 (0 - 80 N, 210 - 240 E); CL_6011 (80 S - 0, 210 - 240 E); CL_6012 (0 - 80 N, 240 - 270 E); CL_6013 (80 S - 0, 240 - 270 E); CL_6014 (0 - 80 N, 270 - 300 E); CL_6015 (80 S - 0, 270 - 300 E); CL_6016 (0 - 80 N, 300 - 330 E); CL_6017 (80 S - 0, 300 - 330 E); CL_6018 (80 S - 80 N, 330 - 360 E).

Volumes CL_6019 through CL_6022 cover the polar regions at latitudes above 80 degrees. The mosaics are divided into square tiles 2250 pixels (approximately 2.2 deg) on a side, which nominally covers the polar region with 100 tiles. The square tiles contain the image strips which have good coverage in some areas and many large gaps in others. Two mosaics were generated for each pole: one using data from the north periapsis phase of the mission, the other using data from the south periapsis phase. This yields mosaics of generally uniform resolution, exposure, gain and offset. Volume CL_6019 covers the north pole on the north periapsis phase, CL_6020 the north pole on south periapsis, CL_6021 covers the south pole on the north periapsis and CL_6022 the south pole on the south periapsis.

This disk has been formatted so that a variety of computer systems (e.g. IBM/PC compatible, Macintosh, Sun) may access the data. Specifically, it is formatted according to the ISO 9660 level 1 Interchange Standard. The images are produced in PDS format to be read by PDS NASAView software. NASAView is not available on the CDs but can be requested from PDS by registering at:
