New Publications
History of Safe Use as Applied to Safety Assessment of Novel Foods and Foods Derived from Genetically Modified Organisms
This paper, commissioned by the ILSI Europe Novel Foods Task Force, was published in Food and Chemical Toxicology (2007; 45:2513-2525) describes the practical application and use of the concept of “history of safe use.” The publication can be downloaded from: http://europe.ilsi.org/publications/Articles/Historyofsafeuse.htm.
Probabilistic Risk Assessment for Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) in Sewage Sludge Used on Agricultural Soil
Using ILSI Europe’s conceptual framework for risk-based methodology for deriving quality standard for organic contaminants in sewage sludge, ILSI Europe’s Environment and Health Task Force developed Sludge Quality Standard (SQS) for one organic component – LAS. The resulting SQS was evaluated for consistence and relevance compared with available information from agricultural experience and field tests. This case study was published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology (2007:49:245-259). The publication can be downloaded from http://europe.ilsi.org/publications/Articles/LAScasestudy.htm.
Nutritional Characterisation of Foods – Science-based Approach to Nutrient Profiling
ILSI Europe held a workshop on this topic in April 2006. A summary of the workshop and several papers presented there were published as a supplement to the European Journal of Nutrition in December 2007 (46[Suppl 2]:1-46). Dr. N.G. Asp, Dr. A. Drewnowski, Dr. A. Flynn and Dr. H. Przyrembel served as guest editors for the supplement. Copies of the supplement are available from publications@ilsieurope.be.
