David Blackwell to be Honored

David Blackwell, recently named "greatest black mathematician and statistician," will be honored Dec. 30 by the African and African-American Diaspora Club of the University of California, Stanford University, Cal Tech, and the University of Southern California. Blackwell is professor emeritus of statistics at the University of California, Berkeley. Information about his extraordinary career can be found here

John H. Thompson Named President of National Opinion Research Center (NORC)

NORC at the University of Chicago announced today that John H. Thompson has accepted the position of President. Thompson has served as NORC's Interim President since February and as NORC's Executive Vice President for Survey Operations since he joined the organization in 2002. Thompson came to NORC after a distinguished 27-year career at the U.S. Census Bureau, where, as one the Bureau's most senior career officers, he had responsibility for all aspects of the 2000 Decennial Census th including management, operations, and methodology.

NSF/DMS Not Accepting VIGRE Proposals in 2009

No proposals requesting support under the VIGRE component of the EMSW21 solicitation will be accepted for the June 2009 submission date (i.e., for the FY2010 competition). For further information, please see the program solicitation.
