The U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission and Tena Clark, founder and CEO of Disc Marketing, have entered into an agreement that will allow Clark to license and use her originally composed piece entitled "Way Up There" in conjunction with the national commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first powered flight.

Clark's composition will serve as NASA's theme song throughout the yearlong Centennial of Flight: Born of Dreams - Inspired by Freedom celebration, which officially began Dec. 17, 2002. Clark has selected recording star Patti LaBelle to sing the song, and Disc Marketing plans to have LaBelle's version of the song released commercially on CD.

"Way Up There is a beautiful song that truly captures the limitless spirit of flight," J.R. "Jack" Dailey, chairman of the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission, said. "The song will help us to reach a wide audience as we head into the Centennial celebration." Disc Marketing, based in Pasadena, Calif., creates custom-made digital media. The company has created original in-flight music for the major airlines, as well as for Air Force One and Air Force Two.

The U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission is coordinating a national outreach campaign for the Centennial of Flight: Born of Dreams - Inspired by Freedom celebration, and advising the President, Congress and federal agencies on the most effective ways to encourage and promote national and international participation.
