JOB SAFETY COMMISSION NAMES DENVER COURTROOM IN HONOR OF JUDGE SIDNEY J. GOLDSTEIN

Sidney J. Goldstein, First Judge of the Denver Regional Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, was honored today when the courtroom in that office was designated the Sidney J. Goldstein Courtroom, Chairman Stuart E. Weisberg announced.  Judge Goldstein joined the Commission in 1972 as an Administrative Law Judge.

"A jurist of Sid Goldstein's stature, ability and good humor are rare," Chairman Weisberg said.  The Review Commission rules on contested work place safety and health inspections initiated by the Secretary of Labor under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. As First Judge, he manages the Denver Regional Office.

Judge Goldstein first joined the Review Commission's former regional office in Chicago, his home town.  When that office closed, he relocated to Denver.  A veteran of the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II, the judge graduated first in his law school class from DePaul University in Chicago.

He began his Federal government service in 1958 as a Hearing Officer for the Social Security Administration before joining the Review Commission. Conversant in both German and Mandarin Chinese, Judge Goldstein previously worked in Illinois state government.
