A sample of two populations, 200,000 people living with
HIV/AIDS who receive Medicaid and 60,000-80,000 people living with
HIV/AIDS who receive Medicare, shows an overlap of 50,000-60,000 people
living with HIV/AIDS who receive both Medicaid and Medicare. This
overlap in the sample refers to people who are eligible for both
coverages and/or who are already enrolled.
70 to 85% of Medicare beneficiaries with HIV/AIDS also qualify for
Medicaid. People enrolled in both programs are refered to as "dual
eligibles".
