Welcome.  Thank you for visiting our web site. Our purpose here is to educate you about what the Department of Defense does to execute its statutory counterdrug responsibilities and advance the President's National Drug Control Strategy.

The Defense Department manages only approximately six percent of the overall federal counterdrug  budget, but has enormous responsibilities. We support allies in this struggle in more than 20 countries. That support encompasses a broad range of capabilities and resources that few, except for the Department of Defense, can provide.

We recognize that we are engaged in a long-term effort against an insidious set of threats. As part of that effort, we continuously evaluate what we are doing and adjust our focus to best deal with the changing nature of this threat. Visit us, therefore, often and stay informed. I trust you will find our site interesting and enlightening. Above all, I hope you find it encouraging.

- Richard J. Douglas, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counternarcotics
