Office of General Counsel
The General Counsel, as the sole legal advisor to the National Transportation Safety Board, has responsibility for determining legal policy for the agency.

The Office of General Counsel advises, assists and represents the Board as it fulfills its statutory duty by investigating and determining the probable cause of accidents in a variety of transportation modes, and studying a range of issues related to transportation safety (see History & Mission).

Additionally, the Office of General Counsel serves as legal advisor to the Board in its capacity as the appellate authority for particular disciplinary actions taken with regard to the certificates of airmen, mechanics, and mariners.
