|
Dr.
Mattay is chief of the Unit
on Clinical Neuroimaging, at the Clinical Brain Disorders
Branch of the Intramural Research Program,
National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
He attended medical school at Andhra University in India, and did residencies in Neurology at Medical
College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and in Nuclear Medicine at George Washington
University. He is board certified in both Neurology and Nuclear Medicine. Following a two-year fellowship
in Functional Neuroimaging with emphasis on Magnetic Resonance Imaging methods in the Laboratory
of Diagnostic Radiology Research at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Mattay joined the Clinical
Brain Disorders Branch as a Staff Clinician and clinical imaging scientist.

Research Interests |
Dr. Mattay's research at the NIMH has focused on looking at sensory motor integration (with fMRI), and the modulatory effects of monoamines on neural networks subserving cognition and emotion (using PET and fMRI methodology). Dr. Mattay's Unit is interested in studying individual gene effects on brain information processing using fMRI in normal volunteers across the aging cycle and in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders such as Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia. His Unit is also exploring the utility of functional brain imaging in pharmacogenomics by investigating the effects of monoamines on brain circuits subserving higher cognitive function and emotion processing, and variations in genes that affect the neurotransmitters involved in these circuits. |
