David LeglerPosition: Director, US CLIVAR Office

Responsibilities: David Legler has served as Director of the US CLIVAR (Climate Variability and Predictability - a project of the World Climate Research Program) since February 2000. He is an employee of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR; Boulder, Colorado) and supported by NASA, the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He has many scientific interests, including ocean remote sensing, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and the use of climate information in agriculture. He has served on numerous national and international scientific committees. His scientific work has resulted in several awards, including the American Water Resources Association Boggess Award for best paper in 2003. He is currently working closely with the scientific community, federal research agency program managers, the Climate Change Science Program (CCSP), and international programs to develop, advance, and coordinate scientific planning, as well as inter-agency consideration and implementation of CLIVAR within the United States. CLIVAR is a major contributor to the Climate Variability and Change element of the CCSP Strategic Plan. Legler also helps staff and support the Climate Variability and Change interagency working group.
