Position: Climate Program Specialist
Responsibilities: Rebecca Asch has been serving as a coordinator for the Global Water Cycle Inter-agency Working Group and the Human Contributions and Responses/Decision Support Inter-agency Working Group since February 2007. Ms. Asch has been detailed to the CCSP Coordination Office from NOAA's Climate Program Office. As a result, she also serves as a liaison between NOAA and the CCSP Coordination Office. Within the NOAA Climate Program Office, Ms. Asch is a member of the Planning and Programming Division, which conducts medium-to-long range strategic planning of NOAA's climate research priorities. She serves as the NOAA Climate Goal's coordinator for most issues related to climate and ecosystem interactions.
Prior to joining the teams at the CCSP Coordination Office and the NOAA Climate Program Office, Ms. Asch conducted research and wrote reports analyzing a variety of human impacts on marine ecosystems. Her past experiences include examining the impact of mobile fishing gear on benthic communities, conducting an inventory to detect gaps in national coral reef monitoring efforts, co-authoring the first report to Congress on the status of US coral reef ecosystems, and preparing Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments on the effects of oil and chemical spills on marine biota. Ms. Asch holds a Masters degree in biological oceanography.
