Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye
Sworn in for a Second Term

The Federal Maritime Commission announced today that Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye has been sworn in as a Commissioner for the term expiring June 30, 2010. Commission Dye was nominated to her second term by President George W. Bush on July 12, 2005, and confirmed by the Senate on July 22, 2005. Commissioner Dye originally assumed her duties at the Commission in December 2002, after she was nominated by President Bush to serve the remainder of the term that expired in June 2005.

Commission Dye has an extensive background in maritime matters. For fifteen years, she served as a Committee Counsel in the U.S. House of Representatives. Between 1995 and 2002, she served as Counsel to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; from 1987 to 1995, she served as Minority Counsel for the Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee. Her prior work includes assignments in the Maritime Administration of the Department of Transportation, and the United States Coast Guard.

Commissioner Dye graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1974, and earned a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977.

Commissioner Dye resides in suburban Maryland with her husband David Dye and their daughter Caroline.

Commissioner Dye states that she looks forward to a second term working with her fellow Commissioners and the Commission staff. She also expressed her commitment to providing a secure and fair market environment in which the ocean transportation industry can operate.

Chairman Steven R. Blust stated that both the Commission and the industry benefit from Commissioner Dye's reappointment. "Commissioner Dye has always been recognized for both her expertise and her dedication to service."
