Research Interests |
The Pediatrics and Developmental Neuropsychiatry Branch is comprised of a clinical research team investigating the causes and treatment of pediatric and neuropsychiatric disorders such as childhood-onset anxiety disorders, affective disorders, and movement disorders such as Tourette's Syndrome. Dr. Swedo and her NIMH team were the first to identify a new subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children, pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with strep (PANDAS). Not only has this work resulted in several new and prevention strategies, but it also led to a patent on a biological marker to help identify children at risk of obsessive-compulsive disorder and tic disorders. |
