Chairman Blust Announces the Appointment of
Administrative Law Judge Irwin Schroeder

Chairman Steven R. Blust announced today that Irwin Schroeder has joined the Federal Maritime Commission as an Administrative Law Judge. Judge Schroeder is replacing Judge Frederick Dolan who retired from the FMC.
Judge Schroeder was born in San Diego, California, and has an undergraduate degree from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, and a graduate degree from George Washington University. He earned his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law and is a member of the California and District of Columbia Bars. Judge Schroeder comes to the FMC from the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission where he served as a judge for three years. Prior to that time he was a judge with the Social Security Administration in Houston, Texas, and Hartford, Connecticut, and earlier served as Regional Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsel for the Federal Highway Administration and as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He is a Vice President of the Federal Administrative Law Judges Conference.
Judge Schroeder lives with his wife in Washington, D.C. The Schroeders have one son, who is a professor at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh.
Chairman Blust remarked that Judge Schroeder brings a broad legal and government background to the Commission which should benefit the FMC and those who practice before it.
